The statement- NDT 1 By marijn jansen.

The Statement - NDT 1

Dutch Dance Days 2016, October 8. Like every year the programme of the Dutch Dance Days is official a wrap! Lucky enough I could enjoy the Saturday night performance called 'Het feest van de Nederlandse dans', in theater het Vrijthof. A lot of big companies off the Netherlands where dancing this night, also Dutch dance theater 1 (Nederlands dans theater 1). They performed the piece : The Statement, choreographed by Crystal Pite.

Crystal Pite, associate choreographer of NDT, came with the innovative piece for NDT 1 ; The statement. She made more pieces for NDT like , Pilot X (2005), The second Person (2007), Frontier (2008).

During the piece you will understand why this choreography is called 'The statement'.
The piece is about two managers who are working in the office. That day they get visited by a manager (who is a more important person in the company they are working in), and his assistant.
The man with his assistant came from 'above', (that is how they say it in the performance), with a message to make a statement.

 Crystal Pite.

The music is not really the sound of instrume, but it is a dialogue between 4 people, spoken in English. The dancers are moving so specific and detailed on the dialogue that it really looked like they were talking and discussing with each other.

The only object on stage was an ovale table. This in combination with the dark, mysterious and cold lights made the piece really interesting and exciting. All the elements like the music, the dancers, the stage and the lights were in a good combination. That is also why the discussion was so heated, and the ambiance was so dark.

It is always nice to see performances of NDT, but this time I was really enthousiastic. Crystale Pite came with a really innovative piece. I had never expected NDT would do something like this. I think it is a really different category then the  normal pieces NDT performs. Normally the choreography is more 'dansant'. Now the side effects became more important, like the voices and the lights. there were more details.

I really enjoyed this performance, and if NDT 1 is going to do the Statement again, Then I will be there.
