Ergens; Dichtbij

On Wednesday, May 25, 2013 I saw in the theater in Arnhem Panama Pictures with the performance Ergens;  Dichtbij. The choreographer Pia Meuthen who was born in Germany created the performance Ergens,  Dichtbij by inspiration of short stories by writer Maartje Wortel and the work of artist and illustrator Shaun Tan. The production was a collaboration between Panama Pictures, DansBrabant , Strijbos & Van Rijswijk.
The performance was already started when I came into the theater. There was enough time to take a look to the dancers and found out what they are doing. The first thing that you see is that the dancers are totally different types of dancers. What you notice is that there is an older guy and two people with a strong developed muscular body. The other dancers they just look more normal, something that you would expect to see.
Soon you find out that the performance is not only consist of dance, but that there is also a lot of acrobatics. that's probably the reason why two dancers look different compared to the other dancers. Which is in my opinion very good because the acrobats also can dance and the dancers use also power trucks from the acrobats. So they did  not used it to show, but they used It to fill the performance with more powerful movements and interactive pieces between the dancers. They use like high jumps, lots of floor work, partnering and one really strong characteristic thing that was sometimes coming back in the performance was stillness. Its beautiful because the used so much energy and fast movement that the stillness after this dance parts was working a lot.
Mine opinion about this performance is very positive. Because I think it’s really nice to see older dancers working together with younger dancers and with acrobats. When I was looking to this performance I felt the energy the whole performances. There was no moment where I was thinking on something else than on what I saw.
I guess you could interpret the theme by yourself. I saw a normal society in life. After the performance I was walking to mine home and I felt the feeling of the people on street. The performance made me realize that everything that happens around you happened. You think you can handle it but you cannot even keep it under control.

Perhaps less important, but a very nice possibility is that you can talk after the performance with the dancers. and they try to answer all your questions.
